May 1, Thursday - The Big Read Mixer - Free to the public. Meet local celebrities and share thoughts on "What Books Would You Save?" Winning writers include 1st Place: Janice Mikesell and 2nd Place: Chamber Carpenter. They will be reading from their entries, and you can listen to the music of the Smoke & Mirrors Band while enjoying some appetizers and drinks to celebrate! Bring any book to donate to the banquet to show your support. This event will run from 6 to 8 PM.

May 1, Thursday - Painting Basics - This will be the first of many classes on learning how to paint. Our first session will be color basics, paint mixing, and brush strokes. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn how to paint but has never done so. Please provide the following. Acrylic paint (Red, Blue, White, Black, Yellow, Green)Van Gogh,or Basics will work just fine for paint brands, Artificial brushes, pallet knife, and a paint pallet or cardboard. Class will start at 5:00, please show up when it works for you, and will run until 7:00. There is a $5 charge and will be limited to the first 20 people so please call ahead for your reservation. May 2, Friday - Artist Reception/First Friday - Join us for some wine and hors devours and lavish in the beautiful at work of Betty L Beer and Bob Semarad. Reception runs 5:00-8:00 with art talk starting at 6:30 with our featured artists. For more information, please contact us at 271-9500.

May 15, Thursday - Cooking class with Chef Dominique's Catering. Join us in our cooking demo kitchen and interact hands on with our special guest chef. Space is limited and our last class sold out(23 of 20 spots filled). Class starts at 5:30 and all ages are welcome for only $5/person. Please call for your reservations 605-271-9500.

May 16, Friday - Bike to Work Day, Join us at the Museum from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Help create a cleaner Sioux Falls and a healthier YOU! Chris' Cakes will be flipping pancakes during this time and bicyclists eat for FREE! Visit with all of the organizations who are taking part in this fun event. Rain or Shine and freshen up in our Bikers Shower Facility before heading to work. Please call 271-9500 for further information.

May 22, Thursday - Have you ever wondered what a tea class would be like? On the 22nd starting at 5:30 and going until 6:30, special guest Jane Newmann, owner of De Hoek Dutch Traditions will be presenting a tea lecture and tasting. The class is only $3 and please call in advanced to set up your reservation due to limited seating. 605-271-9500

May 23, Friday - High School Street Dance! School is out and the summer party has just begun, for a good cause that is. The state wide High School Student Senates are joining forces with the Museum of Visual Materials, The Multi-Cultural Center and DJ Jer Music to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. Tickets for this great event are only $5 and can be purchased at the Museum or at your local high school. The party begins at 7:30 and will run until 10:30. We are closing down Main Street between 5th and 4th Street to raise money for this great cause and if it rains, we are moving into the Historic Multicultural Center.
